Progress in the Durbi Takusheyi Burial Project.
The burial site of Durbi Takusheyi constitutes a major archaeological landmark in northern Nigeria but also a historic one as these monuments may be seen as the material representation of the foundation of Hausa identity. Interred during the 13th/14th century AD the accompanying goods reflect a strong indigenous component but are also supplemented by an external component which indicates contact networks deep into the Islamic Near East.
